About FSHA (SU)
Since the foundation of UNAK in 1987, Student Unions and Student Associations have been involved in the university governance in one way or another. In 1988, Félag stúdenta viđ Háskólann á Akureyri (FSHA), the Union of Students at the University of Akureyri (SU) was founded. The goal of the SU, operation and organization has changed and developed over the years. At the beginning SU’s main goal was to unite students and plan social events of all kinds but more recently its mission has shifted to primarily safeguard students’ rights, cooperation with other Student unions in other Higher Education Institutions as well as plan and host various social and cultural events and activities. In 2018 the name was changed to Stúdentafélag Háskólans á Akureyri (SHA).
Social and cultural activities
The SU’s event committee plans and hosts various events on behalf of the SU, such as social gatherings, sports events and family activities. The SU is an active and important co-organizer of the UNAK induction days.
